Some days, she still can't wrap her head around the whole thing. Other days...

 

...she's ready to do whatever it takes to protect her demivamps, no matter the obstacle, no matter the enemy, no matter the personal cost.

 

While meeting her deadlines, natch. Who says a girl can't multitask while saving the world?

 

BLEEDING HEARTS: Book One of the Demimonde was my first novel. It's also the first book in the Demimonde trilogy. I suppose once the story pulled me into its world, it wouldn't let me go...so I kept writing.

I love to read fantasy stories, especially the ones that create such realistic and creative worlds that I'd happy move into the book if I could. (Some I'd be a little terrified to move in, but I'm pretty reckless. I'd do it anyway.)

When writing the Demimonde series, I got to play god and re-imagine Philly the way I wish it could be: full of demivamps, witches, and werewolves. I wouldn't even care if it meant avoiding my favorite cheesesteak joint on full moon nights.

In my world, advice columnists may actually be oracles waiting to manifest and German metal bands like Turn of the Wheel *just happen* to be touring. I mean, check out the tour shirts:

That's right. I'm so submerged in the world of the Demimonde that I had tour shirts made. That's dedication. :)

Wolf's Bane Wrap-Ups and Winners!

Has it already been a month?

The moon is slowly waning gibbous, like a pounding heartbeat slowing after a chase. We catch our breath, watch the sky, and count the days until we run again.

Final Days of the Wolf's Bane Tour...

The darkness remained at the edges, content to let the sun shine while it was the sun's proper time to do so. But night would fall. It always did. The sky turned, the wheel turned, and eventually, we turned with it. --Wolf's Bane (Demimonde #3)

We are in the last week of Wolf's Bane release tour... and the full moon is approaching once more.

I remember watching the moon as I wrote this final book in the trilogy. I'd found the coolest little app for my Windows phone and kept track of the moon's swell and wane throughout the months. Each night, I'd check the sky to see where in the Wheel we were and I'd contemplate my character, Sophie, doing the same thing... counting the days until the moon would shine full and reveal her fate. Each chapter reflects the wax and the wane of the moon as we count down the days with her.

The moon reaches full on Saturday, and in the days that follow it we'll be wrapping up the tour. There will be another Demimonde Companion story going up on Wattpad.com...this one a deleted chapter from Wolf's Bane.

Full moon approaches...and, with it, WOLF'S BANE

A full moon... on Friday the 13th? Such propitious alignment can only mean one thing... some terrifying cosmic event is readying to manifest itself.

Or, it could be that WOLF'S BANE--the third book in the Demimonde series--will celebrate its official release on Sunday.

To spread the word about the conclusion to this urban fantasy trilogy, we'll be embarking on a month-long tour until July 15.

Just as Sophie is compelled to count each day until the full moon in this latest Book of the Demimonde...so shall we.

Question is: when July's full moon arrives,

which of us will Turn?

#FastDraft and The Journey to The End of This Book

Last week, I embarked on a huge buddy write project called #FastDraft. A group of writers get together on Twitter everyday for writing sprints, encouragement, and mild tomfoolery (because we are, after all, supposed to be writing.)

The purpose? To leave off with excuses. To get rid of the distractions. To get the words written.

This opportunity could not have come at a better time: my writing goal this month is to complete the first draft of Wolf's Bane (Demimonde #3). Thanks to #FastDraft, I might just do it.

Here's an update on my progress--hopefully it will inspire other writers to get their own word counts up.

First, I must add the inimitable Liv Rancourt @LivRancourt to the #FastDraft Pack. Be sure to follow her because she is fantastic.

Second, I made my daily goal of 1200 words every day, even writing ahead some days to compensate for the days I had to go to the day job.

I also did a hard look at the book, marking out the passage of time so that the story made sense. I researched lunar phase calendars, printed-and-Post It-ed the manuscript, and evaluated the overall project. It was something that had to be done for some time and, now that I did it, I have to say--the manuscript is right where I wanted it. Maybe even in a better place. It's no longer a series of scenes and sequences and poor transitions and clumps of plot.

It's a story now.

Since I started the #FastDraft on Saturday (five days ago) I accomplished a staggering 13,700 words worth of Wolf's Bane. I even passed the 70K mark!

Best part? Life went on. I went to work. I got laundry washed and dinners made. I went to Boy Scout and Girl Scout meetings and three karate classes. I got to do all my Real Life things and still got a ton of writing done.

And it wasn't just the manuscript--I also did guest posts and blog posts.

If this sounds like bragging, it's not--it's just amazing to list out everything that happened this week, thanks to the inspiration and the encouragement I received from #FastDraft. Those amazing authors are really helping me on my Journey to the End of This Book.

Since I got in nearly 2000 words today, I thought I'd take a break from the Were and the demivamps (sort of) and get my next newsletter out.
